Telescopic Adventures....An initiative to astronomy that couldn't succeed

I am a kind of nature loving freak. I used to spend some time alone at night outside home,,looking at the skies, how the tree trunks(Coconut,,This is Kerala) respond to the light winds. I talk to the nature,,feels like all of them are listening to me which gives me really a good feeling...In one of those days, I looked up at sky and there was an urge in me to know more about the skies and their depths. For me, Astronomy was a field of science while I learnt physics in my high school, but it became a passionate thing now. The starter kit to astronomy will definitely have a telescope.I still remember that day when I was a kid and went to Kodaikanal,,there was a telescope and I didn't get a chance to see through that. Maybe that was an inspiration to my thought of buying one..I went in search of a telescope for a beginner in astronomy..First one figured in my search was Celestron FirstScope and another one was Celestron Powerseeker 50 AZ. Luckily these were coming under $50. So it is economical..

                                FirstScope                                     Powerseeker 50AZ

Well like any other young Keralite, I went through a lot of websites, videos from Youtube to get to a conclusion. One site could compare these two telescopes and there was this majority opinion too. Celestron First Scope introduced in the International Year of Astronomy(2009) uses a reflective mirror pattern which includes a primary and secondary mirror. The alignment of mirrors so as to get the light properly into it is Collimation. Collimatioon is a difficult process for a starter but the First scope is a dobsonian telescope and it is properly fitted such that we don't have to work much on it.On the other hand, Powerseeker 50AZ  uses a refractive lens which is apt for long images without much interferences.

Firstscope has a focal length of 300mm whereas the powerseeker has a focal length of 600mm.Initially I thought focal length as a measure should be higher like others for a better product, but later understood the relevance of focal length and its inverse relationship. The lesser the focal length the more the maginification ,,,I assume. It relates to magnification(involves the focal length of the telescope and the eyepiece). The aperature of first scope is 76 mm whereas powerseeker is having 60mm. Though both have its own advantages like those who own refractive say reflective need regular maintenance and hard for portability and reflective volunteers deny it saying considering the price and if a real astronomy enthusiast who want to see the depths, reflective is better. Well I have gone through some videos figuring someone who took a video of how it looks through the telescope of moon craters and nebula.Atlast I have drawn a conclusion to go with firstscope, considering the names of different scientists or astronauts written on the telescope.

Sadly I couldn't proceed my order considering my dear one's thoughts of how I will waste more of my time looking at the sky...Ruined Young man??? My telescopic adventures will start someday but not now... For a headstart,, a friend of mine asked,,well when you are tired looking up,,watch around this beautiful nature.
